Is a Marble Plaster finish more costly to maintain as opposed to Fibreglass?
Why is the marble plaster in some pools rough under the feet?
Will black algae develop in the marble plaster?
Yes, in ground pools must withstand constantly changing pressures from movements in the surrounding soil. Changes in water temperature, drainage problems and structural flaws can cause a fiberglass pool to crack unlike the heavily reinforced Concrete pool.
Absolutely, all our Custom Built Concrete pools are custom build on site allowing you the client to complete freedom when it comes to the design. With fiberglass your selection is limited, plus access to the premises with the fiberglass shell can lead to spending thousands of rands extra for the cost of a crane.
Approximately 3-4 weeks, depending on the design. As the business is owner managed we focus on keeping your site clean a neat all the time! We program each stage of the construction, deliver the material as its required and as a result the completion is fast and the inconvenience or mess are usually avoided.
Any in ground pool that "pops out" only happens in high water table conditions where a releasing valve is not fitted - this normally happens when the pool is emptied for repair. NO Fibreglass pool is allowed to be drained because it can not withstand the external pressure! All our Custom Built Concrete Pools can be built with a release valve preventing any build up pressure to develop under the pool structure when emptied.
The smooth marble plaster finish that is applied to the structure makes it difficult for algae to cling onto. The satin-smooth surface of a fibreglass pool makes it even more difficult but you will find the surface is very slippery and can be a danger for kids. We recommend the installation of a salt chlorinator (see Extras), this once of installation will eliminate any monthly cost on chemicals.
The marble plaster does lose its smoothness with time (10-15 years), fortunately you can drain our custom built pools & re-plaster it perhaps with a different marble colour - making it look brand new again unlike a fiberglass pool that will discolour, stain and eventually fade with time.
After 10-15 years the marble plaster will lose its smoothness and black algae can grow in those rough areas more easily making it more difficult to maintain. To extend the lifespan of your marble plaster we do recommend the installation of a Salt Chlorinator as one treats the water not the container
